First Big Snow of the Year

Wow. That was an interesting drive home.  Actually, the Jeep was great. I do not know how I survived for 40 years without four wheel drive! It was the situations that other drivers found themselves in that made the drive so interesting. One guy driving a gasoline tanker was blocking all five lanes of Carpenter Road just south of Washtenaw. What a mess he made. He was perpendicular to the road and had it completely blocked. With four wheel drive I was able to maneuver my way out of the mess, while the cars behind me were stuck in the ugly jam. It still took me an hour to get the ten miles home from work. About a mile north of home, it got be close to a white out. I could see maybe about ten feet in front of my car. But I am here now, and safe and sound.

Tomorrow I will relax and decorate the tree and drink hot chocolate and play Christmas carols and maybe watch my old video of Charlie Brown Christmas. And I will definitely have to bake something yummy like gingerbread. And I will not leave my house until the road crews get out and clear some of the snow out of the roads.

I have the feeling the kids will be home with me, too.  Except for wrestling practice, which they have even when school is cancelled.

U2 LYRICS

"City Of Blinding Lights"

The more you see the less you know
The less you find out as you grow
I knew much more then than I do now

Neon heart, day-glow eyes
The city lit by fireflies
They're advertising in the skies
And people like us

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground

Oh you look so beautiful tonight...

Don't look before you laugh
Look ugly in a photograph
Flash bulbs, purple irises the camera can't see

I've seen you walk unafraid
I've seen you in the clothes you've made
Can you see the beauty inside of me?
What happened to the beauty I had inside of me?

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground

Oh you look so beautiful tonight...tonight
In the city of blinding lights

Time...time....time...won't leave me as I am
But time won't take the boy out of this man
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight

In the city of blinding lights,
The more you know
The less you feel
Some pray for, others steal
Blessings not just for the ones who kneel, luckily
