Royal Shakespeare Company ~ Julius Caesar

We went to the second of the three Shakespeare plays from the Royal Shakespeare Company that we will be seeing. We will see the third next weekend, and it is my favorite  Shakespeare play, The Tempest. There was a review in last night's paper, and they said that Patrick Stewart is so good that when he does Prospero's last lines, it is so beautiful it nearly stops your heart.

But tonight it was time for those "honorable men" and those noble Romans in Julius Caesar. Another fine production by the Royal Shakespeare Company. I do not know when I have ever encountered such a good use of sound in a play. And the minimal sets were also put to very good use. The use of color was stunning - all of the blood showed up great on the whites of the stage and the costumes. And - of course - the actors and actresses were just plain wonderful. Ariyon Bakare was stunning as Marc Antony, John Light was awesome as Brutus, James Hayes made a wonderful Julius Caesar - but again, there was not a single weak or subpar performance on the part of any cast member.

Other than that it was a sort of strange day. Dan was supposed to be home by 5PM, and he even called to confirm that at about 3PM. At about 6:30 with no sign of him, and no phone calls, Steven and I started to panic. He finally called, and told us to meet him in Ann Arbor and to bring clean clothes with us. So we met him and drove to the theater, and he was all grouchy because his work got all busy and crazy on him. Then we had to go get his truck at the place we met him after the play, and of course, the Pittsfield Township police saw people (us) in a usually deserted parking lot late at night, so stopped to check us out. That made him even more grouchy. Then we had to drive down to Maybee to drop Steven off at his friend's house for a slumber birthday party and that made him even more grouchy.

It is in the middle of the night, and he is still so grouchy I do not even want to get near him even though we are alone in the house.      And that stinks!!
