Laurell K. Hamilton and her Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Books

I stopped reading this series after Danse Macabre, though I truly feel all of the books after Obsidian Butterfly are pretty much unreadable. I will not even try the latest, The Harlequin - I have too many other things to do than waste my time on really bad books!

This series went from being tightly plotted and fun little mystery stories with supernatural elements to plotless and boring porno drivel.

None the less, here are some things that might get me to read another book by this author someday:

1. a well crafted plot

2. the book containing something other than poorly written and boring sex scenes and the characters being all emo and angsty about the sex

3. a return to feeling that the main characters are actually in danger (from something other than rough sex)

4. an attempt at characterization ~ many of the characters introduced since Obsidian Butterfly are little more than ambulatory male genitals ~ it would be really nice to get a "feel" for what makes these characters tick, for their personalities, etc.

5. a return to actual intimacy rather than just meaningless physical sex - Anita and Jean Claude going to a restaurant together so he can metaphysically taste the food she is eating is actually a lot more intimate that a full scale orgy that includes characters you feel you know nothing about

6. the characters need lives - why not mention that Jason and some of the guys went to a Cards game and drank some beer and had fun? It doesn't have to be a Cards game, but you get the general idea. And you do not have to detail the game in the book - just make it clear that the characters do something (anything) other than have sex

7. Anita needs to get back to work and raise some zombies or do something else productive (and a lot more interesting for the reader) with her time other than just play with the boy toys (who have personalities of cardboard) in her harem

8. how about an explanation for some of the really weird stuff, like how Anita can be carrying around four kinds of were virus in her bloodstream and still never turn furry or feathery?

9. proofreading and editing are a MUST - and no more cutting and pasting - the group sex scene was boring the first time around, and agonizing the second

10. these constant nonsensical powerups from sex have got to stop ~ they are way over the top and swing too far into deau ex machina territory (see number 3)
